Gaslight Radio

Back in 1999, Gaslight Radio released their critically acclaimed debut album, Hitch On The Leaves. A timeless and beautiful slice of lush, narcotic pop/rock, Hitch On The Leaves marked Gaslight Radio as a force to be reckoned with. It saw them nominated for an ARIA award, signed to a publishing deal with Mushroom Music, championed by national Australian broadcaster JJJ, and finally signed to a record deal with UK major label, Silvertone.

With the standard terms and contracts in place, it seemed the band were destined for the hallowed ground of commercial and artistic glory. Yet, as any band that has weathered an industry storm can tell you, the path to glory is cracked and broken, and nothing is quite as it seems.

This chaotic experience was reflected in the sound of the band’s next album, 2004’s dense and urgent Z-Nation. Edgy, intelligent and filled with a contradictory and incendiary mixture of both seething anger and hopeless optimism, the album both defined the internal mood of the band and carved out the future of their sound.

In the coming years, despite being jettisoned by the industry, battling housing crises and financial turmoil, Gaslight Radio still managed to produce two equally arresting and hard-bitten albums; Good Heavens, Mean Times and Magic Castle, Broke Songs. Released in 2006 and 2007 respectively, the albums reflected a band growing leaner and wiser. The band continued to hone their live sound, with constant national shows and support slots for touring acts such as “The Breeders”.

Now, in 2009, Gaslight Radio have once again arrived on the radar with "Guillotine Sun", the fierce new single from their forthcoming album. The single was released digitally as a free download and physically in limited edition green vinyl.
